Meat processing company Kepak was awarded damages of €150k when it sued an Irish-based Polish newspaper for libel. Polska Gazeta, with a circulation of 10,000, carried two articles in which it blamed the company for the death of a 48-year-old Polish employee who died of a heart attack. The newspaper, which has since gone out of business, alleged that Leszek Pas had been overworked in the six years that he spent at the Kepak plant in Ballymahon, Co. Longford.
