A new network aimed at uniting Irish pubs in the diaspora has started up and is planning a convention in September. Irish Pubs Global is aimed at the owners and managers of Irish bars around the world outside of Ireland, and is creating a community of owners and managers for sharing knowledge, building links with Ireland, local and global promotion, and promoting standards in Irish pubs.

The network was started by Galway-born businessman Enda O'Coineen, a part of the team that brought the Volvo Ocean Race to Ireland. The network also provides a central point of contact for anyone trying to reach pub owners and managers.
At the recent launch of the network, O'Coineen spoke of the special role of the Irish pub abroad, saying, "Outside of Ireland, the Irish pubs are much more than bars where you can get a great pint - they also showcase our legendary hospitality and cultural heritage, with music and great food often essential to the whole experience - and some of the people running these pubs are Ireland 's best ambassadors". He added he was inspired by the recent Global Irish Economic Forum at Farmleigh, and that he believed Irish pubs deserve recognition for the work they do in marketing Ireland overseas.
