This year's Rose of Tralee is Clare Kambamettu (26) who, like last year's winner, represented London and also like last year's winner came from Athy, Co. Kildare.
The winner was announced after all 32 contestants had been interviewed by presenter Daithi Ó Sé. The contest, held over two nights before a 2,000-strong audience in Tralee, was televised live and proved as popular as ever with the viewing public. The new Rose is the daughter of an Indian doctor and an Irish health worker. After graduating with an arts degree at NUI Galway she went to London to study psychology. This was Daithi Ó Sé's first year as presenter and he was widely perceived as a success. The Co. Kerry born teacher first made his name as a presenter on the Irish language television station TG4. |
